Video game testing is a great money making opportunity if one is able to find one. I make my living working as a video game tester and I am going to guide you to be a video game tester. The work of a video game tester is to detect bugs and write them down in a report and send back to the company that offered you the job. When video game companies are in need of game testers, they do so by posting such opportunity in their website. How do they do this? They do it through advertisements by letting people know that are interested to take advantage of this offer. A good way to get one is to make contacts with someone that works in a game company. Well, if you don’t know any person that works in a game company, your chances are limited but it doesn’t mean you won’t be able to get this job.

Another way is to search at websites of game manufacturers. I guess you know the game manufacturers; they are EA, Microsoft Xbox, Sony, Code Masters and Nintendo. Make out time daily to browse through their website, when you see one, contact them and prove to them why they should consider giving you this job. Evenly go to the extent of telling them the number of years you’ve been playing game, the names of games you’ve played and the length of hours you spend playing each game. Explain to them these ideas in details to really convince them the more to offer you this job.

The compensation paid to a video game tester is attractive. Their pay ranges from $20 to $120 hourly, and I tell you, if you are able to impress them, as in detect bugs, you earn more. Think of when you test a video game sample for 3 hours daily, the amount you will earn in a month is likely to double.

Consistency
When you’ve got the job, make out time to check your mail daily to see when you have samples of games to test. Read the instructions that come with it, read it carefully and make sure you know what is expected of you to detect while playing the games. Play the game all over and over again to see that you are not leaving any bug behind. After playing the game, write down what you discovered according to what you were told to do so and deliver the feedbacks on time. Seat back and wait for your check.

You too can be a video game tester like I do, not only will you be a game tester but you will also be sent a copy when the new game is released into the market.

Adding a sunroom to your home is a great way to add some space and to increase the value of your home as well. They are usually quite quick to add on as well, and will usually take only a few weeks to have them all construction. However, when it comes to the price of your sunroom, they can definitely vary. Before you get started on your sunroom, you’ll definitely want to consider the costs, so let’s take a look at the range of costs, how you can figure the cost, and a few tips to help you save money on your sunroom as well.

Range of Costs
When it comes to the amount of money that you will spend on a sunroom, the totals can definitely vary. Depending on your choices you may spend as little as about $12,000 or even as much as $80,000. This can be quite a bit of money, but you still have to consider that it is cheaper than other types of additions as well. Also, if you happen to do it yourself, you can definitely bring down the costs. Also, even if it does cost you a nice chunk of change, remember that it will definitely make your home worth more, which is important. So, as you can see, the cost of your sunroom can definitely vary.

How to Figure the Cost
Trying go figure out the cost of your sunroom? If so, you are going to have to do some research. Find out more about the cost of various sunrooms, and remember to research the labor costs, materials costs, and the cost of decorating the area as well. While you may have an idea already of what you want in the sunroom, you need to remember that this can lead to spending quite a bit of money. You need to budget money for quality materials, roofing systems, and for furniture as well. So, all these need to be considered when you are trying to figure out what the sunroom is going to cost you.

Tips for Saving
Of course if you are on a budget, there are a variety of things that you can do to save on the cost of your sunroom. Here are a few tips for saving that can help you spend less money on a great sunroom.

- Tip #1 – Don’t Cut Corners – First of all, it is important that you don’t cut corners to try and save money. Cutting corners will only end up costing you more in the long run, so it is not worth it. Make sure that you use quality materials so you don’t end up spending money fixing problems later.

- Tip #2 – Do Some Work Yourself – Doing some of the work yourself can really save you quite a bit of money on your sunroom. Remember, the labor is often one of the costliest parts of having a sunroom built. So, anything you can do yourself can help you save. In fact, there are even do it yourself kits out there that allow you to do the whole project on your own.

- Tip #3 – Cut Back on the Decorating Budget – While you want the interior of your sunroom to look wonderful, you may want to cut down on the decorating budget to make sure that you get a quality structure. Even if you can do all the decorating you want to now, over time you can continue to add to the décor in the room.

Once you have a sunroom installed, more than likely you are ready to start enjoying it. Of course you are probably going to want to decorate and furnish the room first. This can be a whole lot of fun, but when you are decorating your sunroom, there are some special considerations to remember. Not sure where to begin or which decorations to pick? Well, here are some great tips that will help you to decorate your sunroom so it looks great.

Tip #1 – Choose Items that Won’t Fade – First of all, you’ll want to make sure that you avoid purchasing anything that may fade. Remember that your sunroom is going to get a lot of sun all day long, so you will want to make sure that you pick out items that are not going to fade in the sun.

Tip #2 – Go with Lightweight Options – Going with lightweight options is important as well when you are decorating and furnishing your sunroom. More than likely you are going to want to move things around from time to time, so you’ll want to avoid anything that is too heavy in the room. Go with lighter options, such as wicker or even some wrought iron furniture as well.

Tip #3 – Install Shades or Blinds – No doubt you will also want to install some shades or some blinds in the sunroom as well. There may be some times that you want to keep the sun out, so it is important that you have shades or blinds that will allow you to decide how much sunlight you want in the room. Also, they can provide you with the privacy that you need as well.

Tip #4 – Add Some Plants – Adding some plants to the room is a great way to decorate as well. It will make it feel even more like you are outdoors. Make sure that the plans you choose are real too for a great look. Since you have all the sunlight, consider going with some beautiful and large tropical plants for the room. The plants will grow wonderfully with the sunlight; just make sure that you water them regularly.

Tip #5 – Install a Ceiling Fan – Another great idea when you are furnishing your sunroom is to install a ceiling fan. Even if you have air conditioning in the room, a fan can provide more circulation of air in the room. There are many great fan styles that will look great in the room, and you can make it seem even more beautiful while keeping it cool as well.

Tip #6 – Consider a Hot Tub – If you really want to have a great time in the sunroom, then you may want to consider adding a hot tub. You can add a screen that will screen it off from the rest of the room and you’ll have a great place to relax. This is a great way that you can make your sunroom even more enjoyable.

Sensational, grandly sinister and not for the kids, “The Dark Knight” elevates pulp to a very high level. Heath Ledger’s Joker takes it higher still, and the 28-year-old actor’s death earlier this year of an accidental overdose lends the film an air of a funeral and a rollicking, out-of-control wake mixed together. In “The Dark Knight,” Ledger makes all other comic book screen villains look like Baby Huey. Like Shakespeare’s Iago or Richard III, like Anthony Hopkins‘ Hannibal Lecter or Javier Bardem’s implacable murderer in “No Country For Old Men,” this is no Method maniac, asking or telling anyone about his character’s motivation. At one point Ledger throws up his hands and says, agitatedly, that it’s a waste of time looking for a rationale behind the Joker’s smeary psycho-harlequin makeup.

“I’m a dog chasing cars,” he says. “I wouldn’t know what to do with one of them if I caught it.”

Director and co-writer Christopher Nolan, who fashioned the screenplay with his brother, Jonathan, has created the most ambitious and sleekly beautiful of all the superhero screen outings. A handful of others—” Superman II” and ” Spider-Man 2″ come to mind—may have fewer loose ends and a more exhilarating spirit. They’re certainly shorter; this one is 152 minutes. But “The Dark Knight,” which improves upon the solemn authority Nolan and Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne brought to ” Batman Begins,” has an atmospheric shimmer all its own. Its unsung hero is cinematographer Wally Pfister, who makes every interior and exterior a thing of burnished, menacing beauty. Shot largely in Chicago at night, greatly aided by production designer Nathan Crowley, this is the most nocturnally insinuating entertainment since Michael Mann’s “Collateral.”

No heartland paradise

Sampling every flat Midwestern dialect he no doubt heard while shooting in Chicago, Ledger gives the Joker the deceptively bland vowel sounds of heartland America. But Gotham City is no heartland paradise. It teeters on the verge of bloody anarchy, and its most outré citizen licks his chops, literally, as if he can’t get the taste of blood out of his mouth.

While billionaire playboy Wayne continues his clean-up campaign Gotham City finds a new symbol of righteous hope, district attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). He has it all: a fervent desire to clean up a dirty town, plus the love and devotion of Wayne’s ex, the assistant D.A. and one of a small handful of Gothamites who know Batman’s true identity. She’s played by Maggie Gyllenhaal, stepping in for (and improving on) Katie Holmes. Gyllenhaal’s curled-at-the-corners smile matches up perfectly with Bale’s.

The D.A. teams up with Batman and the weary honest cop Jim Gordon ( Gary Oldman in a mustache that says “trust me”) to combat organized crime, though Batman’s vigilantism has inspired all sorts of copycat, low-rent imitators. Then, just when the film needs a good jolt, Dent undergoes a radical physical and psychological transformation and becomes, literally, two-faced.

Villain isn’t squandered

The transformation comes at a narrative cost. The film’s focus is thrown slightly out of whack, and it’s too bad his coin-flipping gambit is so like that of “No Country’s” Anton Chigurh. Not everything in “The Dark Knight” works: Some of the more painful flourishes—a grenade plopped in a bank manager’s mouth, the terrorization of Gordon’s children—are too much. Yet so much of “The Dark Knight” works on different levels simultaneously. It’s a brooding crime saga with some spectacular action sequences. My favorite pits Bale’s Batman and his “Bat-Pod,” the world’s deadliest, most awesome motorcycle, against Ledger’s Joker in an 18-wheeler. The setting is Chicago’s LaSalle Street canyon, and what I love about the scene—aside from its eerie, 3 a.m. vibe—is Nolan’s reliance on good old-fashioned stunt work. “The Dark Knight” offers plenty of digital effects, but they never take over.

Nineteen years ago Jack Nicholson’s Joker won a lot of the credit for the popularity of director Tim Burton’s “Batman.” In contrast to that stylish but uneven picture, one of the splendid things about “The Dark Knight” is its refusal to squander its villain. This is a true ensemble piece, and you can’t say that of most $180 million franchise products. Ledger’s scenes are few, carefully considered, often startlingly brutal (one scene, over in an eye-blink, involves a disappearing pencil trick and a man’s skull) and freakishly effective.

Six sequences constituting about 20 minutes of footage were shot using IMAX cameras, including the opening bank heist and a fabulous swoop across the Hong Kong skyline. (The narrative takes a detour for a matter of extraditing an Asian businessman back to Gotham and to justice.) There’s a sweep and spaciousness to the imagery here, and even a simple chase sequence such as the one staged along Lower Wacker Drive feels freshly considered. The violence, however rough, is largely free of the lingering, jokey sadism prevalent in so many comic-book and graphic novel-derived films. Nolan paints an inky portrait of a city falling apart, and in a movie rife with two-faced masquerading freaks, the Joker is merely the least conflicted of the bunch. Ledger’s work is improbably droll, impossibly creepy, meticulously detailed. See for yourself.

Many people think of French cooking as being fussy and time consuming, and while it is true that French haute cuisine takes food preparation to dizzying heights, most of the cooking going on in French kitchens on a daily basis is simple and to the point. After all, French people are just as busy as you are, and they too are looking for shortcuts and easy ways to get dinner on the table.

Here are three fine examples of what you might find for dessert if you were to eat at a French friend’s house. Each of these is

Made with five or less ingredients, all of which you are likely to have on hand.

hen blend until smooth. Stir in the coffee and mix until smooth again.

Require less than 20 minutes preparation time.

Will satisfy both with their elegant presentation and with their good taste

Creme caramel

1 1/3 cup sugar, divided

3 cups milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

4 large eggs

To make the caramel, place 2/3 cup of sugar in a small saucepan and wet with just enough water to dissolve it (about 1 tablespoon). Heat on medium heat, shaking the pan occasionally. The sugar will boil for a while until it starts to turn brown. As soon as it starts to turn brown remove it from the heat and pour the caramel into 6 ramekins.

In another saucepan, heat the milk with the other 2/3 cup sugar until it reaches a boil. Stir in vanilla. In a sturdy bowl, beat the eggs until light. Whisk in the hot milk, slowly at first to avoid coagulating the eggs. Whisk to completely mix.

Pour (or ladle if that works better for you) the milk mixture into the ramekins on top of the caramel. Place all 6 ramekins in a large oven proof dish. Fill the dish with water to about 2/3 the height of the ramekins.

Carefully place in 300° oven. Bake for 40 minutes to an hour (baking time can depend on the dishes used). The water should not boil during baking. The creme is done when it has set, which you can verify by inserting a knife.

Allow the cremes to cool completely, then cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate in their ramekins until serving time. To serve, run a knife along the outside of each creme, than turn over onto a dessert plate.

Makes 6 servings.

Petits pots de creme au chocolat

1 cup half and half

7 ounces dark chocolate, chopped

3 tablespoons strong coffee (you can use decaf of course)

3 eggs

3 tablespoons softened butter

3 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup heavy cream

toasted slivered almonds and red currant jelly (optional)

Remove the core from each apple leaving it whole (an apple corer is of course handy for this, but a paring knife will work if you cut carefully). Place the apples side by side in a baking dish.

Mix the butter, sugar, and cinnamon and spoon the mixture into the cored apples. Add two tablespoons of water to the baking dish and place in a 400°F oven for one hour. Bake until soft (may take longer if the apples are large).

Serve warm and drizzled with cream and any sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. For an authentic French touch, sprinkle with slivered almonds and add a dollop of red currant jelly.

Makes 6 servings

Having guests at your home can be fun, but it is stressful as well. Aside from cleaning up the house to make it look “presentable,” you will still have to cook and get the best dinnerware out in order to impress your guests. If you’re new to cooking, the whole ordeal will seem a lot worse. You become apprehensive about the reactions and comments to the dishes you prepared. You can’t very well order take out, lest people think you’re too lazy to cook.

If you’re having people over for snacks before dinnertime, what better way to entertain guests than baking a batch of delicious little cupcakes? Cupcakes are easy to make and they are very filling as well. In addition, if you’re more inclined to artistry rather than cooking, you can show off your skills by decorating the cupcake in such a way that guests would rather sell it at an art auction rather than bite into it.

You can always make two basic varieties of cupcakes that will surely impress your guests: the simple Vanilla and Butter cupcake and the Chocolate cupcake. In both recipes, you will need about 5 ounces (or 150 grams) of butter, 5 ounces of sugar, about 6 ounces of flour (preferably the self-raising kind), and three eggs. For vanilla cupcakes, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract. For chocolate cupcakes, add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder together with the vanilla extract.

Before starting, prepare your materials. You will need a big mixing bowl, an electric mixer, and some muffin pans, and your trusty old oven. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 180 degrees Celsius) while you combine all the ingredients in the large mixing bowl. Make the whole batter smooth and creamy by beating them with an electric mixer. Line the cups of the muffin pan with cupcake papers, and slowly pour the batter onto each one until they are about two-thirds full. Place the muffin pans inside the oven and wait for about 20 minutes, or until you see them rise. Take them out of the oven, place them on a wire rack, and allow them to cool before adding the frosting.

If your guests brought their kids, decorating can be an activity for them as well. Why not let the kids decorate desert? It ’s a fun way to keep them entertained and it will get them involved with the dinner party.

Cheap computer selection can be fun and exciting. Or it can be mysterious and end-up costing you more than it should. Here are some ideas to help. Selecting a computer all boils down to your computer needs and computer strength. You should understand both before you go shopping.

Computer strength is determined by certain key components. They are the CPU, RAM memory, the hard disk drive, the graphics card, and the sound card. This article will review these parts and explain them so you will be able to avoid the many pitfalls in selection when purchasing any computer or laptop.

Your Intended Use

First, it is important to determine exactly what you intend to use the computer for. This is because you should buy a computer suited to your needs, and NOT only because of price, color, cabinet design, or because it’s what a store has in stock. Your primary considerations should be a balance between your ability to pay and if the computer is powerful enough to handle your computer needs. Otherwise you are paying for excess Processor and Ram that you will never be used.

I recommend you write down on a piece of paper exactly what you want to do with a computer. If you know what software programs and games you will run, write them down. If you have these programs and you still have the box they came in, look on the box and see what operating systems (O/Ss) they will run on and the amount of RAM Memory and other requirements your programs require.

Note that the most popular O/S today is Microsoft Vista©. Unfortunately, many or all of the software programs and games you now have will probably not run on Vista.

Vista is a more complicated system and software must usually be created specifically for Vista in order to run. If you wish to keep the programs and games you now use, you may want to look only for a new computer that has Microsoft XP (usually Microsoft XP Professional) or you will have to buy upgrades or new programs and games that will run on a new computer that has Vista.

Most new computers will come with some software already installed on the computer, such as Microsoft Office, which includes several programs such as Microsoft Word.

Your Budget

You will need to consider your budget when buying any computer or laptop. Standard or basic computers are low-end systems that will handle most everyday computer needs for home, light office, individual and student users. Such uses would include surfing the Internet, using email, writing and editing reports, bookkeeping, downloading and listening to some music, watching some video, and light graphics editing. Many games will play on a standard computer, if an adequate graphics card is installed.

However, dedicated gamers, and those that wish to do considerable graphics and photo editing and video editing will need the more expensive higher-end systems that have the correct Athlon or Intel processors, the correct graphics and sound cards, and plenty of RAM Memory for good 3D rendering and heavy graphics use.

In determining your computer needs, you should assess how much power you need. If you have specific software graphics programs, such as an Adobe program, or games you have or wish to buy, look on the software and game boxes for recommended system specifications.

These specifications should be your guide when looking at computer systems.

Computer Components

Okay, so it gets a little complicated here, but I’ll keep it simple. It is important to understand computer components so you have a better idea of what makes computers run. Here are the most essential components and parts in a computer.

THE PROCESSOR

The processor, or CPU, is the brain of the system. It is only a chip and is located on the motherboard, which is a large board system in the computer. All other computer components are designed around the processor because the processor is the master regulator of the entire system. It is the most expensive item in a computer, so the general strength of a computer is determined by the quality of the processor.

At the present time the AMD Sempron and Athlon are common low-end processors. Low-end RAM chips will only handle minimal graphics, meaning older or undemanding games and typical display graphics. The AMD Phenom Quad and Intel Core ™ 2 Duo are mid-range, meaning they are stronger and can handle more. While the AMD Phenom X4 and the Intel Core™ Quad Q9450 are high-end, they are fully capable of full 3D rendition and heavy graphics use.

RAM MEMORY

The system’s Memory, or RAM or RAM Memory, is the temporary memory of the computer. Typically, the more RAM you have the smoother the computer will run. A good standard computer not long ago would have 512 MB of Memory. Things have changed. Now, many low-end and mid-range computers today will have up to 1 GB of DDR II RAM. High-end computers will have 2GB or even 4GB of DDR II or DDR III RAM.

HARD DISC DRIVE

The hard drive is the permanent memory of the computer. In general, it is best to get as much as possible, and hard drives are no longer expensive. Today, a typical hard disk in a standard computer should have a minimum of 40 GB, but will usually have about 80 GB. Mid-range computers will often have 200 GB or more. While high-end will have up to 1,000 GB. Look for the speed of the hard disk, 7200 RPM Serial ATA is desirable.

A person that downloads a lot of MP3 or that edits video (non-professionally) will want at least 160 GB, minimum.

GRAPHIC CARDS

Lower-end computers and some mid-range computers will have an integrated motherboard, meaning the graphics card is part of the motherboard. This will work well if you will use the computer mostly for non-graphics intensive programs, including non-3D games.

Serious gamers, photo editors, video editors, and those in graphics creation will want a separate, higher-quality graphics card, which is sometimes called a video card. Popular graphics cards include the NVIDIA® GeForce® 9300GE and the ATI® Radeon™ HD 4870 X2. Right now, the top quality high-end cards include the Dual ATI Radeon® HD 4850-CrossFire and the NVIDIA® 9800 GTX.

SOUND CARD

On many lower-end systems, the sound card is “integrated” on the motherboard. On other lower-end and some mid-range systems the sound card is “integrated” with the graphics card.

A separate sound card (not integrated with the graphics card or the motherboard) can indicate a better sound system, but that depends on the quality of the card. Top-end sound cards include the Creative Labs Sound Blaster® Audigy®2 ZS High Definition and the Intel® High-Definition 7.1 Audio.

MONITORS

Monitors are a matter of personal taste. Some people still prefer the older CRT monitors, even though they use-up more room on a desk and they are heavy. However many LCD monitors are now being sold. LCD is now the standard even for low-end computers. I recommend at least a 17 inch screen. Of course, the bigger the screen the better.

PORTS

Look and make sure the system comes with support for the latest USB 2.0 specification. If you plan to do any video capturing and editing, make sure the computer has FireWire ports.

In Summary

By understanding computer components and other vital parts, and by understanding your computer needs, you can make a wiser cheap computer selection. Buying only what you need is good for the environment, and you will save money in the process.

The idea to remodel your bathroom can come as an idea to augment your house value or simply to make it into the haven you have always wanted. Whichever reason is yours, to make everything you do to implement your remodel bathroom ideas fully realizable, you should look to these inexpensive and easy-to-install ideas.

When you remodel a bathroom, you can change aspects from lighting to fixtures. In the bathroom you want to have adequate lighting. Some ideas would be changing harsh lighting with staged lighting, or even lights at the vanity and near the bathtub. Changing lighting won’t break your budget, as a lot of fixtures can be inexpensive. You can also save money by doing it yourself. Yet, know when to hire outside help, such as a local remodeling contractor. You can check yellow pages, and online to find one near you. All you need to do is Google “local city remodeling” and see what comes up.

When remodeling a bathroom you should always listen to the advice of your contractor on what type would be best suited for your project. You are paying a remodeling contractor to do the work, he/she should have the best knowledge of what will look the best with the decor and usage of such things as shower heads, faucets, lighting and other fixtures. Chances are he/she may also be able to get better quality and pricing on all fixtures especially if he/she is well established. Not to mention the contractor will also know what types will really increase the value of your home.

Buy more tiles than you believe you will need in order to line the floor, if not the walls. It will be far more costly and time-consuming to locate tiles that even come close to a replica of yours if you search for them years after buying the initial batch. For the duration of your homeownership, you’ll probably require spare tiles if single ones are damaged. Also, excess tiles may be transformed into accent items for your bathroom, such as decorations by the light switches, bathroom tissue dispensers, mirrors, and even towel racks. Once again, the local remodeling contractors are experienced and will attend to these pre-planning items for you.

To gain more space in the bathroom replace your big vanity with a small pedestal sink. You can add more shelves in other parts of the room. A pedestal sink will take up less space and make your bathroom look bigger than before. Avoid filling up expanded space with items you will not use. Do you really need that many different shampoos? You should only need a small amount of space for these products like the top of the toilet or built in shelves.

With the knowledge of various remodeling bathroom ideas from luxury developer Pendleton Homes out of Mclean Virginia you can re exam your own ideas and learn how to create your own remodel bathroom ideas. Pendleton Homes has great advice to help you with remodel bathroom ideas, these ideas also include pictures in which you may want to mix up a couple to make it look as if you were the one who had ther great remodel bathroom idea. Just learning a little might even make your new bathroom the envy of many and your sanctuary of pleasure.

As you consider remodel bathroom ideas, make sure that the lighting is appropriate.

Drywall texture is a compound that is rolled, sprayed, or troweled onto the sheetrock after the taping and floating of joints is complete. It is the same material as the joint compound, but thinned down with water and applied to the wall surface. There is a lot of variation in styles of texture, and some are more appropriate for certain styles of homes. Here are seven basic types:

Skip Trowel – For this style, texture is applied to the walls with a trowel. Trowel marks may be left on the surface to give a rustic, hand crafted look. It is often seen on Tuscan or old world style homes.

Stamped - The texture may be troweled on first, and then stamped with a tool. The result can be anything – leaves, bird’s feet, windmills, etc. Or, a flat brush may be dipped in the texture and stomped on the walls, creating a texture with swirl patterns.

Knock down – Texture is first sprayed on, and allowed to partly dry. Then, a variety of tools may be used to scrape the texture and flatten it down. It is possible to use trowels, sponges, brooms or other tools to scrape or smooth down the texture and create patterns. Monterrey Drag is a type of knock down that imitates an exterior plaster look. In this approach, a thick coating of texture is dragged over with a trowel. This style may be a dust catcher due to the high relief of the mud.

Orange Peel - This is a sprayed texture that leaves a light to heavy splatter on the walls. It resembles the peel of an orange. If done with a fine spray, it can be one of the lightest, least noticeable of the texture styles.

Sand - Sand can added to the texture for a grainy, sandy look. The sandy texture may be sprayed or rolled on. Sand may also be added to paint.

Acoustic – In the 1970’s it was common to save the labor cost of floating the ceiling by spraying a heavy texture over the area. This is sometimes referred to as a popcorn ceiling. This style is not in favor today, and frequently homeowners grapple with removal of this heavy texture. This should be done carefully, since some acoustic textures may contain lead or asbestos. Certainly, if these toxic chemical are found, the job should be turned over to professionals. After the texture is removed, the ceiling will need to be re-textured to match the walls.

Smooth - This is a smooth application of texture over the sheetrock wall. It feathers out the sheetrock joints, and creates an even, non-textured wall. This is one of the most expensive and exacting styles. Minor variations will show up as defects, so several stages of sanding and application are needed to create a good job.

Regardless of the wall finish you use, keep in mind that flat paint tends to hide defects and minimize patterns. It gives a matt finish with less emphasis on the wall texture. Reflective paint enhances textures because the light catches the raised surfaces.

Before having wall texture done by professionals, ask to see a sample. The workman’s idea of light texture may not be what you had in mind. This is an area where miscommunication often happens. Texture covers a lot of area, and is difficult to remove if you are not happy with the job. Treat it as a long term investment.
